ASM is seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to lead environmental compliance, sustainability, and resource management programs for our new Scottsdale, Arizona site. This position will serve as the site subject matter expert for environmental programs and regulatory compliance, ensuring operations are conducted in accordance with federal, state, and local environmental requirements while supporting ASM's sustainability objectives.
The Environmental Engineer will own site environmental permits and compliance programs, including air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, and chemical management programs. The role requires strong collaboration with Facilities, Facilities Engineering, Operations, Construction, and EHS stakeholders to ensure environmental considerations are incorporated into facility design, expansion, commissioning, and operational activities.
This role is highly visible and will play a key part in establishing environmental systems and culture for a growing semiconductor facility.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Permits & Regulatory Compliance
- Own all site environmental permits, registrations, licenses, and approvals.
- Manage permit applications, renewals, modifications, and regulatory agency correspondence.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with permit conditions and regulatory requirements related to:
- Air emissions
- Wastewater discharge and pretreatment
- Stormwater management
- Hazardous waste
- Hazardous materials management
- Spill prevention and response programs
- Maintain compliance calendars and ensure timely submission of required regulatory reports.
- Conduct regulatory applicability reviews for facility changes, process modifications, new equipment, and expansion projects.
- Support regulatory inspections, audits, information requests, corrective actions, and compliance verification activities.
Air, Water, and Waste Programs
Air Compliance
- Manage air permit requirements, emissions inventories, emissions calculations, recordkeeping, and reporting.
- Support evaluation of new tools, process equipment, abatement systems, and facility infrastructure for permitting impacts.
- Coordinate required inspections, monitoring, and testing activities.
Water and Wastewater Compliance
- Manage wastewater discharge permits and pretreatment requirements.
- Coordinate wastewater sampling, data review, reporting, and corrective actions.
- Partner with Facilities Engineering to ensure reliable operation of wastewater treatment and environmental control systems.
- Support water conservation initiatives and responsible resource management.
Waste & Circularity
- Lead site waste management and waste minimization programs.
- Manage hazardous waste, universal waste, and non-hazardous waste compliance requirements.
- Oversee waste vendors, manifests, waste profiles, storage areas, inspections, and recordkeeping.
- Develop and implement recycling, reuse, and circularity initiatives that improve waste diversion and support ASM sustainability goals.
- Establish metrics and reporting for waste reduction and circular economy performance.
