Department Overview:
The Innovation Industries department at NYCEDC oversees real estate and capital projects, financial incentives, government wayfinding and regulatory reform, and workforce initiatives and diverse entrepreneurship programs to ensure New York City remains a global leader in innovation, and that we provide pathways of opportunity for all New Yorkers in our tech, life sciences, clean tech, and creative industries. For example, we launch wet and dry labs, video game production facilities, or AI and robotics innovation studios for therapeutic discovery and healthcare tech.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate for someone in the Innovation Industries department is a mission-driven professional who operates at the forefront of emerging industries like tech, life sciences, clean tech, and the creative economy. As a thought leader and knowledge partner, you bring a strong understanding of how innovation intersects with real estate, workforce development, and inclusive economic growth. You stay ahead of trends, influence policy, and help shape strategies that position New York City as a global hub for innovation.
You excel at turning bold ideas into high-impact initiatives. Whether launching lab spaces, designing incentive programs, or piloting new technologies, you approach program development with intention and equity in mind. You know how to navigate complex ecosystems across government, academia, and industry to build initiatives that are practical, scalable, and future-facing.
You possess sharp project and program management skills that allow you to drive work from concept through execution with precision. You manage timelines, budgets, and partnerships effectively, all while staying agile and solutions-oriented. Your ability to balance vision with execution makes you a key player in advancing NYCEDC’s mission to create pathways of opportunity through innovation.
