Description

Companion Pet Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support both outpatient care and procedural services, including surgery.

We are seeking a versatile, skilled assistant who thrives in a dynamic general practice environment — balancing exam room care, surgical support, and client communication at a moderate-to-high clinical level. We are looking for dependable, motivated candidates who bring hands-on clinical experience, sound judgment, and a genuine commitment to exceptional patient and client care across all areas of the hospital.

In this position, you will play a key role in both outpatient and procedural workflows, contributing to a consistent, high standard of care throughout the patient visit.

Responsibilities include:

  • Splitting time between exam room, outpatient, and surgical caseload support
  • Performing radiology, phlebotomy, SQ injections, and laboratory sample collection
  • Assisting with surgical setup and patient preparation, monitoring, and recovery
  • Providing safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care
  • Monitoring inpatient care and supporting hospitalized patients throughout the day
  • Maintaining accurate, detailed medical records and treatment documentation
  • Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
  • Building strong client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service

Schedule and compensation:

  • Compensation: $16.00 – $25.00 per hour, for each hour worked, based on skills and experience
  • Schedule: This is a full-time position, with a 4 x 10 schedule, Monday–Friday. No weekends and no on-call requirements.

Full-time Benefits Package*:

  • Bonus package: $500 depending on experience
  • Health package: Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance and disability
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 401k with company match
  • Paid time off in accordance with site policy and applicable law
  • Personal pet discount
  • Uniform allowance

*Part-time team members may be eligible for limited benefits in accordance with company policy and state law

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

  • 2+ years of veterinary assistant experience is required
  • Recent graduates pending VTNE testing, or out-of-state license-holders eligible to transfer, are encouraged to apply
  • Proficiency in the following skills:
    • Radiology positioning and safety protocols
    • Surgical setup and assisting
    • Phlebotomy and SQ injections
    • Inpatient care and monitoring
    • Safe, low-stress patient handling and restraint
    • Accurate medical record documentation
    • Client education and communication
    • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
    • Commitment to high-quality patient care and continuous learning
