Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a contract Senior Social Media Project Manager for the Communications department of the Wikimedia Foundation. The Senior Social Media Project Manager will support the Communications department’s social media strategy and annual plan, while also providing project management support for broader communications initiatives as needed.
Reporting to the Director, Communications Programs and working closely with the Senior Marketing Manager, Social Platforms, this role will coordinate cross-functional social media initiatives, manage project workflows, ensure campaigns and content are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational priorities. The role will serve as a central point of coordination across social media, creators, creative, content, design, marketing, and analytics teams—facilitating collaboration, managing dependencies, maintaining project momentum, and helping teams extend their capacity to deliver effective communications work.
This is a one year remote contract position working with colleagues across the US, the UK, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Southeast Asia.
Timezone location requirement: UTC -6/-5 to UTC -3
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Senior Marketing Manager Social Platforms to plan and execute evergreen social media initiatives, social media campaigns, strategic initiatives, and related communications projects.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects, establishing scope, timelines, milestones, deliverables, roles, dependencies, and communication plans.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams across social media, creators, content, creative, design, video, community, PR, marketing, analytics, and external partners.
- Lead project kickoffs, status meetings, stakeholder check-ins, and retrospectives to maintain alignment, accountability, and momentum.
- Build and manage project workflows in Asana, tracking deliverables, dependencies, resources, risks, and changing priorities across distributed teams using Google workspace.
- Proactively identify and resolve roadblocks, resource constraints, and scope changes, escalating critical issues and helping teams develop practical solutions.
- Partner with leadership and stakeholders to prioritize initiatives, align resources and timelines, and connect project work to broader communications and organizational goals.
- Support content and campaign workflows from development through review, approval, and publication, ensuring work stays on schedule and within scope.
- Develop project documentation, processes, dashboards, and reporting that provide visibility into project health, progress, and campaign performance.
- Foster effective collaboration across time zones by establishing clear communication practices, team norms, decision-making processes, and expectations.
- Build trusted relationships across teams, influencing without direct authority and fostering accountability, inclusion, and shared ownership.
- Lead retrospectives and implement process improvements that reduce bottlenecks, strengthen team effectiveness, and improve project delivery.

Skills and experience:
- 4+ years of experience in social media project management or similar role
- 2+ years of experience working remotely with a distributed team
- Experience using Asana, our project management software, and the Google suite
- Strong project management skills: prioritization, organization, planning, time management, stakeholder management, facilitation, problem solving, and decision-making
- Familiarity and comfort with different communication styles, experience with various cultures and projects crossing multiple time zones
- Ability to anticipate risks, build relationships and trust, influence without authority, and effectively enforce accountability
- Dependable and flexible interpersonal communications skills
- Experience and comfort with ambiguity

The Wikimedia Foundation is a remote-first organization with staff members including contractors based 40+ countries*. Salaries at the Wikimedia Foundation are set in a way that is competitive, equitable, and consistent with our values and culture. The anticipated annual pay range of this position for applicants based within the United States is US$91,435 to US$140,810 with multiple individualized factors, including cost of living in the location, being the determinants of the offered pay. For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. We neither ask for nor take into consideration the salary history of applicants. The compensation for a successful applicant will be based on their skills, experience and location.
