Description

Flagship Pioneering is a scientific innovation engine that invents and builds companies that change the world. We bring together the greatest scientific minds with entrepreneurial company builders and assemble the capital to allow them to take courageous leaps in human health, sustainability, and beyond.

What sets Flagship apart is our ability to advance biotechnology by uniting life science innovation, company creation, and capital investment under one roof in a way that is largely without precedent. Our team of scientists, entrepreneurial leaders, and professional capital managers are each aligned around an institutionalized process that enables us to innovate and create breakthroughs for the benefit of people and planet.

Many of the companies Flagship has founded have addressed humanity’s most urgent challenges: vaccinating billions of people against COVID-19, curing intractable diseases, improving human health, preempting illness, and feeding the world by improving the resiliency and sustainability of agriculture.

Flagship has been recognized twice on FORTUNE’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies, and has been named four times to Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies.

Position Overview

Flagship Pioneering is seeking a Senior Manager, Internal Communications to develop and execute internal communications strategies that keep Flagship and our ecosystem employees informed, engaged, and connected to Flagship's mission of inventing and building breakthrough companies that change the world.

  • Serve as a trusted communications partner to internal stakeholders, providing guidance and sound judgment on messaging, audience strategy, communication timing, and approaches to complex or sensitive organizational issues.
  • Establish best practices and feedback loops to evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications, leveraging employee feedback, engagement metrics, and other insights to make recommendations and continuously improve tone, messaging, and channel performance.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the employee experience through storytelling, executive visibility, recognition programs, and two-way communication.
  • Maintain internal communications governance and editorial standards, ensuring content is accurate, on-brand, and aligned with Flagship's voice across all channels.
  • Support crisis and issues communications planning, helping leaders respond to sensitive organizational moments with clarity and care.

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of progressive experience in internal communications, corporate communications, employee communications, change communications, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing internal communications plans that support organizational priorities, employee engagement, and business initiatives.
  • Strong creative instincts and a willingness to challenge conventional approaches, bringing fresh ideas for how to communicate, engage employees, and tell compelling stories across channels and formats.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse employee audiences and executive stakeholders; meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience managing complex communications projects involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and sensitive or confidential information.
  • Strong understanding of internal communications channels, editorial planning, and employee engagement best practices.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships and provide communications guidance to leaders and cross-functional partners.
  • Experience using employee feedback, engagement metrics, and communications analytics to evaluate effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
  • Ability to juggle multiple initiatives and projects with ease.
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, high-growth organization; life sciences, biotech, or innovation-driven environments preferred but not required.

Behaviors
